Lower is better. Months with no ranked play are skipped.

A backyard course on the rise

Tangled Valley logged its first round on March 25, 2026. Through the spring it was mostly a practice loop: two rounds in March, seven in April and a May spike to 23. Summer went quiet. In June the course slipped to No. 120 in Massachusetts for rounds played, and July and August logged nothing.

The league changed that. Weekly league nights started on September 11. September closed with 41 rounds from 7 players, 3 of them first-timers, and the course climbed to No. 66 in the state. Nationally it moved from No. 10,075 to No. 4,972. In the last four weeks, play is up on the four weeks before.

Tangled Valley Disc Golf League

Fall 2026 · inaugural season

Weekly league nights for the friends and neighbors who call Boxford home, and anyone else who wants in. Singles, shotgun start, scored live in UDisc with handicaps.

League Calendar

Season standings

How points work

  • Win the night and earn 1 point for every player in the field (9 players = 9 points).
  • Everyone in the field earns points on a sliding scale by place, so every round counts.
  • Ties split the points for the places they share.
  • Season total counts your best 10 rounds. Official standings use raw scores; pick Standings with handicap above to see how it shakes out with handicaps.

The Golden Disc

The Order of the Bogey Knights

Where par goes to die with honor. A league honor society for the brave souls who keep the trees busy.

The Rusty Shield

  • Goes to the player with the most bogeys or worse on league night.
  • Tie? Most doubles wins it. Still tied? Highest score.
  • Scored from the UDisc hole-by-hole results each week.

    Roll of Knights

Win the Rusty Shield once and you're knighted. Your title comes from the hole that has bogeyed you most this season.

      The Knight's Code

      1. Thou shalt blame the wind, even when there is none.
      2. Every tree is a worthy foe. Most of them win.
      3. A bogey taken with honor beats a double chased in vain.
      4. What the pond takes, the pond keeps.

      The Ace Pot

      Current pot

      How it works

      • $5 per player goes in each league night.
      • An ace during a league round takes the whole pot.
      • More than one ace in a night? A closest-to-the-pin throw on hole 1 decides who takes the pot.
      • No ace, no payout. The pot rolls to next week.

                Questions

How much land do I need?

Less than you think. Tangled Valley plays 18 holes from 6 baskets on a backyard lot by sharing baskets across holes. Short beginner holes can need as little as about half an acre each.

                Wooded or open land?

Both work. Woods make shots more interesting, and open land is faster to build. Most of our course is in the woods.

                Can I build it myself?

Yes. Pick the Design package and we'll give you the layout and a gear list. The gear we use is in the Pro Shop.

                Who is this for?

Backyards, camps, schools, churches, farms, breweries and campgrounds. If you have the land and want people on it, it fits.

                Get a free quote

Pricing depends on your land and the number of holes. Tell us a bit about it and we'll set up a site walk.

                Flight Numbers

                Speed · 1–15

How fast the disc has to be thrown to fly as designed. Higher speed needs more arm.

                Glide · 1–7

How well it holds the air. More glide means more distance for less effort.

                Turn · +1 to −5

How much it drifts right early in flight (for a right-handed backhand). More negative turns more.

                Fade · 0–5

How hard it hooks left as it slows down. Higher fade is more dependable in wind.

                Gear for the woods

Every disc from the 90+ brands at Infinite Discs, with flight numbers for each. Tangled Valley is short and wooded, so the course picks lean toward discs that fly straight and stop where you aim them.

                Discs

                Not approved. Not sorry.

Six discs the rules committee would never sign off on. Each one breaks a rule on purpose, and each one fixes something that costs you strokes in the woods: wind, short arms, spit-outs and lost plastic.

                Meet the gang

One for every slot in the bag: driver, fairway, midrange, two putters, and one for after dark. Flight numbers are speed, glide, turn and fade, same as any other disc in the shop.

                What they're wanted for

Approved discs have to meet the PDGA's technical standards, which leave no room for bolt-on weights, holes, grippy add-ons or electronics. Here's which line each outlaw crosses, and what you get for it.

Outlaw Discs are concept designs right now. Nothing is made or for sale yet. If you'd put one in your bag, email Eric with the disc you want and you'll be on the list when the first run is stamped.

                The fine print

                • None of these discs would pass PDGA approval. They're for casual rounds, glow nights and backyard games.
                • Don't bring them to a sanctioned event or a rated round. Your scores won't count and the TD won't be amused.
                • Leave them home on league night too. The Golden Disc is won with legal plastic.
                • Designs, names and flight numbers are early concepts and will change before anything is made.
